The OSHA law on fire extinguisher training is pretty clear--federal regulations make it mandatory.
Program
Certified Fire Protection recognizes the importance of your time and is prepared to work within your schedule. Each class runs approximately 1 hour, consisting of a brief test , 18 minute video (produced by the National Fire Protection Association), a review of the test, question and answer, general discussion, evacuation plans, meeting areas and emergency exits. At this point the class adjourns outdoors, whereupon the instructor ignites a fire, demonstrating proper extinguishment practices. Volunteers are invited to do the same. A Certificate of Completion will be presented to each employee. Fire Extinguisher Training CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Title 29, Part 1910 (OSHA) Section 157, Paragraphs g.1 & 2 "Where the employer has provided portable fire extinguishers for employee use in the workplace, the employer shall also provide an educational program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage fire fighting."
